An immortal mountain fairy named Âu Cơ married a mythical king named Lạc Long Quân ("Dragon Lord of Lạc"; lit.). She bore an egg sac that hatched a hundred children who would become the first people of Vietnam. The people thereafter honored Âu Cơ as the mother deity of the original Vietnamese people.
