Background

Ma was an Anatolian deity with cult temples in Cappadocia and Pontus of central and northeast Asia Minor. She may also be represented in Hittite, Ancient Greek, Ancient Egyptian, and other religions of the broader Ancient Near East. She is oftentimes characterized as a 'Mother Goddess' type of deity who was diffused into other nearby cultures.[1] Arthur J. Evans has even suggested that Ma could be represented in The Phaistos Disk symbols of the Minoan culture in Crete, Greece.[2]
